Native Americans and Alaska Natives have significantly higher rates of abuse and alcohol and drug addiction than other races, an a situation which must be addressed for these cultures to survive. Although the things which trigger substance abuse may vary from individual to person, many of the reasons for the high rates of drug abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native youth appear to have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the nation. The most evident barriers to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for addiction are cultural ones and their language. Due to this it is crucial that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Wolf receive treatment services in an alcohol and drug treatment program that is understanding of their culture, but most importantly in a drug rehab that takes into the account the need to offer alcohol and drug rehabilitation in their native tongue.
