Native Americans and Alaska Natives have much increased rates of abuse and drug addiction than other ethnicities, an an issue which must be addressed for these people to endure. While the causes may differ from person to person, most of the factors for the significantly higher rates of drug abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives have to do with their culture. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native youth appear to have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the U.S.. The most obvious barriers to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for addiction are cultural challenges and their language. For this reason it is vital that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Williamsburg receive substance abuse treatment in a drug rehab facility that is culturally acceptable, but more importantly in one that takes into the account the need to supply drug rehabilitation in their native tongue.
