Native Americans and Alaska Natives have significantly higher rates of substance abuse and addiction than other races, an an issue which should be aknowledged for these cultures to survive. Although the reasons may differ from individual to individual, most of the factors for the significantly higher rates of substance abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the country. The most obvious obstacles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug and alcohol addiction are cultural differences and language. Due to this it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Union Center, SD. receive rehab treatment in an alcohol and drug treatment facility that is culturally acceptable, but more importantly in one that considers the need to provide drug treatment in their native tongue.
