Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have much higher rates of drug abuse and addiction than other ethnicities, an an issue which has to be resolved for these people to survive. Although the reasons may differ from individual to person, most of the reasons for the high rates of drug abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the country. The most obvious hurdles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug and alcohol addiction are cultural challenges and their language. Due to this it is crucial that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Truth Or Consequences, New Mexico receive substance abuse treatment in a drug rehabilitation program that is understanding of their culture, and more importantly in one that understand the need to supply drug and alcohol rehab in their native tongue.
