Criminal justice clients in Sumatra make their way into alcohol and drug rehabilitation facilities due to the fact they were found guilty of drug related crimes, whether they were dealing drugs or were in the possession of or found to be high on drugs. Many judges put these convicted persons into the drug and alcohol treatment system mainly due to the fact that they believe that treating these individuals will be more helpful for the culture at large and for the person, rather than putting them in prison with no rehabilitation at all. This has been established to be very workable not only in treating and rehabbing this type of client in Sumatra, but also in helping them stay off of drugs and in many situations away from the criminal justice system permanently.
