Native Americans and Alaska Natives have significantly increased rates of alcohol and drug abuse and alcohol and drug addiction than other races, an an issue which must be aknowledged for these people to endure. Although the things which trigger substance abuse may differ from person to person, most of the factors for the high rates of substance abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native youth appear to have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the U.S.. The most obvious hurdles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug and alcohol addiction are cultural ones and their language. For this reason it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in St. Stephens obtain rehab treatment in an alcohol and drug treatment center that is understanding of their culture, and more importantly in one that considers the need to offer alcohol and drug rehab in their language.
