Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have much higher rates of drug abuse and drug addiction than other races, an a circumstance which must be aknowledged for these cultures to endure. Although the things which trigger substance abuse may differ from person to individual, most of the reasons for the significantly higher rates of drug abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native youth have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the U.S.. The most obvious obstacles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for addiction are cultural challenges and their language. Due to this it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Seaside obtain substance abuse treatment in a drug and alcohol rehab program that is culturally acceptable, but most importantly in a drug rehab that takes into the account the need to offer drug treatment in their language.
