Partial Hospitalization, sometimes referred to as "PHP" or Day Treatment, is a form of alcohol and drug rehabilitation program that works to treat substance abuse problems and mental health disorders which may be co-occurring. In a PHP facility, the person in rehabilitation participates in a variety of treatment services and methods during the day and then leaves in the evening time. This is done anywhere from five to seven days a week, all dependent on the significance of the drug problem. Partial Hospitalization can be most effective for addicted people in San Quentin who who may be unable to cover the costs of long-term inpatient care, or for treatment clients who are unable to be apart from their home and work for extensive periods of time. While in Day Treatment, individuals participate in traditional treatment services for alcohol or drug addiction problems while also overcoming psychological problems which may deter them from remaining abstinent once rehabilitation is complete.
