Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have much very high rates of drug abuse and drug addiction than other races, an a situation which has to be addressed for these people to endure. Although the things which trigger substance abuse may vary from person to individual, the majority of of the factors for the higher rates of abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the country. The most obvious barriers to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for substance abuse are cultural differences and language.
