Treating men and women who are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol and have landed somewhere in the criminal justice system has proven to be a productive method of eliminating repeat drug related criminal offenses by those that do take advantage of treatment programs. For criminal justice clients in Rio that do take part in in drug rehabilitation programs, even against one's will as is occasionally ordered by the court, these persons have a much better chance at addressing the crux of the problem so that they can remain sober and off of being implicated in drug related criminal acts. The costs to the criminal justice system related to these drug related crimes is also affected positively when criminal justice clients are helped in drug rehab programs in Rio instead of jail time or other penalties.
