Native Americans and Alaska Natives have much higher rates of substance abuse and addiction than other races, an an issue which has to be resolved for these cultures to survive. While the reasons may vary from person to person, the majority of of the causes for the high rates of substance abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives have to do with their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native youth have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the country. The most evident obstacles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug addiction are cultural differences and their language.
