Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have significantly higher rates of abuse and alcohol and drug addiction than other races, an a situation which must be aknowledged for these cultures to survive. While the things which trigger substance abuse may differ from individual to individual, many of the causes for the higher rates of abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the U.S.. The most apparent obstacles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for addiction are cultural challenges and language.
