Native Americans and Alaska Natives have significantly higher rates of drug abuse and addiction than other races, an a situation which must be aknowledged for these cultures to survive. Although the causes may differ from individual to individual, many of the causes for the significantly higher rates of substance abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives have to do with their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents appear to have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the nation. The most obvious hurdles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug addiction are cultural ones and their language. For this reason it is crucial that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Rapid City receive treatment services in an alcohol and drug rehab facility that is understanding of their culture, and most importantly in a drug rehab that understand the need to supply drug rehab in their native tongue.
