Native Americans and Alaska Natives have significantly higher rates of substance abuse and drug addiction than other ethnicities, an a situation which should be resolved for these cultures to survive. Although the things which trigger substance abuse may vary from individual to person, the majority of of the factors for the higher rates of abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the country. The most apparent hurdles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for substance abuse are cultural differences and their language. This is why it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Olive, Montana receive substance abuse treatment in a drug and alcohol rehab facility that is understanding of their culture, and more importantly in a drug rehab program that understand the need to provide drug and alcohol treatment in their native tongue.
