Native Americans and Alaska Natives have considerably very high rates of drug abuse and addiction than other races, an a circumstance which has to be aknowledged for these cultures to survive. Although the things which trigger substance abuse may differ from person to person, most of the factors for the high rates of alcohol and drug abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives have to do with their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native youth appear to have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the country. The most obvious barriers to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug and alcohol addiction are cultural challenges and language. For this reason it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Odessa, Delaware receive substance abuse treatment in a drug and alcohol rehab program that is understanding of their culture, but most importantly in one that considers the need to offer drug rehab in their native tongue.
