Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have significantly increased rates of substance abuse and addiction than other races, an an issue which should be resolved for these people to survive. Although the things which trigger substance abuse may differ from person to individual, many of the reasons for the significantly higher rates of drug abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents appear to have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the U.S.. The most apparent hurdles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug addiction are cultural differences and their language. This is why it is crucial that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Nulato receive treatment services in an alcohol and drug treatment center that is culturally acceptable, and more importantly in one that takes into the account the need to offer alcohol and drug treatment in their language.
