Native Americans and Alaska Natives have significantly increased rates of abuse and drug addiction than other races, an a situation which must be addressed for these cultures to survive. Although the causes may differ from individual to person, many of the reasons for the high rates of abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native youth have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the U.S.. The most evident hurdles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug and alcohol addiction are cultural challenges and language. For this reason it is crucial that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Mona receive substance abuse treatment in a drug treatment center that is understanding of their culture, but most importantly in a drug rehab program that considers the need to offer drug treatment in their native tongue.
