Native Americans and Alaska Natives have significantly increased rates of abuse and alcohol and drug addiction than other ethnicities, an a situation which must be resolved for these people to survive. Although the things which trigger substance abuse may differ from individual to person, the majority of of the factors for the significantly higher rates of alcohol and drug abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives have to do with their culture. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native youth appear to have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the nation. The most evident obstacles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug and alcohol addiction are cultural challenges and their language. Due to this it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Mayhill, New Mexico obtain substance abuse treatment in an alcohol and drug treatment program that is understanding of their culture, and most importantly in a drug rehab that understand the need to supply alcohol and drug treatment in their native tongue.
