Partial Hospitalization, also known as "PHP" or Day Treatment, is a form of alcohol and drug treatment program that is meant to treat drug and alcohol addiction issues and psychological disorders which may be co-occurring. In a PHP center, the individual in rehabilitation takes part in a variety of rehab services and techniques during the day and then returns home in the evening. This is carried out several days per week, depending on the severity of the drug or alcohol problem. Partial Hospitalization can be most effective for drug addicted individuals in Maine, New York who who may be unable to cover the costs of long-term inpatient treatment, or who are not able to be away from their households for prolonged periods of time. While in Day Treatment, treatment clients take part in traditional counseling and therapy for alcohol or drug addiction issues while simultaneously overcoming psychological problems which could keep them from remaining abstinent when rehabilitation is complete.
