Rehabilitating persons who are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol and have found their way into the criminal justice system has proven to be effective in curbing repeat drug related criminal offenses those offenders who do become rehabilitated. For criminal justice clients in Maine who do partake in drug and alcohol rehab facilities, even un-voluntarily as is sometimes ordered by the judge, these clients have a far better chance at dealing with the crux of the issue so that they can stay off of drugs and off of being implicated in drug related crimes. The costs to society having to do with these drug related offenses is also affected positively when criminal justice clients turn out to be rehabilitated in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs in Maine in lieu of jail time or other penalties.
