Partial Hospitalization, also known as "PHP" or Day Treatment, is a kind of drug and alcohol rehabilitation center that is meant to handle drug addiction problems and mental health problems which may be co-occurring. In a PHP center, the individual in rehabilitation takes part in a variety of treatment services and strategies in the daytime and then returns home in the evening time. This is done several days per week, depending on the severity of the drug or alcohol problem. Partial Hospitalization can be most effective for addicted men and women in Lincoln Park who are unable to pay for long-term inpatient care, or who are not able to be away from their home for prolonged periods of time. While in Day Treatment, treatment clients take part in standard counseling and therapy for drug and alcohol addiction issues while simultaneously dealing with mental health problems which could keep them from remaining abstinent when treatment is complete.
