Seniors and older adult persons in Lebanon are prone, if not predisposed, to alcohol and drug abuse just like any other age group. In fact, seniors and older adult persons are already typically on prescription drugs which are also commonly abused. When combined with illicit drugs and alcohol, seniors and older adults are at a higher risk of serious health consequences including death. The negative stereotypes associated with addiction may keep many seniors and older adults away from the drug treatment programs in Lebanon they desperately need. Due to this, there are drug treatment centers which specialize in this age range of the population. These drug rehab facilities are aware of the issues which are peculiar to this group of clients, and how to address drug or alcohol addiction among seniors and older adults. Because seniors and older adult persons are already prone to sickness and accidents, it is imperative that they receive rehabilitation before any disease or accident is brought on by their drug addiction which can result in long term if not fatal harm.
