Native Americans and Alaska Natives have considerably increased rates of abuse and drug addiction than other races, an a circumstance which has to be resolved for these people to survive. While the things which trigger substance abuse may vary from individual to person, many of the factors for the high rates of abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives have to do with their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native youth have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the U.S.. The most obvious barriers to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug and alcohol addiction are cultural differences and their language. This is why it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Kirtland obtain rehab treatment in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program that is culturally acceptable, but most importantly in one that takes into the account the need to provide drug rehabilitation in their language.
