Native Americans and Alaska Natives have considerably higher rates of alcohol and drug abuse and drug addiction than other races, an a situation which must be resolved for these cultures to survive. While the causes may vary from individual to person, many of the causes for the significantly higher rates of substance abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. The most evident obstacles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug addiction are cultural challenges and language.
