Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have much higher rates of drug abuse and drug addiction than other ethnicities, an a circumstance which has to be aknowledged for these cultures to survive. Although the reasons may vary from person to person, most of the factors for the significantly higher rates of drug abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native youth have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the country. The most evident hurdles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug and alcohol addiction are cultural ones and language. For this reason it is vital that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Houston, Alaska receive substance abuse treatment in a drug treatment facility that is understanding of their culture, but more importantly in one that understand the need to offer drug rehab in their language.
