Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have much higher rates of alcohol and drug abuse and drug addiction than other ethnicities, an an issue which must be aknowledged for these people to endure. While the reasons may differ from person to person, the majority of of the reasons for the significantly higher rates of abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents appear to have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the country. The most apparent obstacles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for addiction are cultural ones and language. This is why it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Hot Springs, South Dakota receive treatment services in a drug and alcohol treatment center that is understanding of their culture, but more importantly in a drug rehab that considers the need to provide drug and alcohol treatment in their language.
