Native Americans and Alaska Natives have significantly very high rates of alcohol and drug abuse and drug addiction than other races, an a situation which should be addressed for these people to survive. Although the things which trigger substance abuse may differ from person to individual, most of the causes for the high rates of substance abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native youth have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the U.S.. The most apparent obstacles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug and alcohol addiction are cultural differences and their language. For this reason it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Hill City, South Dakota receive rehab treatment in a drug and alcohol rehabilitation program that is culturally acceptable, but most importantly in a drug rehab that considers the need to provide drug treatment in their native tongue.
