Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have much higher rates of substance abuse and drug addiction than other ethnicities, an an issue which has to be addressed for these cultures to endure. While the things which trigger substance abuse may vary from person to individual, most of the factors for the high rates of substance abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents appear to have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the country. The most evident hurdles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug addiction are cultural challenges and their language. For this reason it is crucial that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Hanna receive substance abuse treatment in an alcohol and drug rehab program that is understanding of their culture, but more importantly in a drug rehab that understand the need to offer drug and alcohol rehabilitation in their native tongue.
