Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have much very high rates of drug abuse and drug addiction than other ethnicities, an a situation which must be aknowledged for these cultures to survive. While the reasons may differ from individual to person, the majority of of the reasons for the high rates of substance abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the nation. The most apparent hurdles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for substance abuse are cultural ones and language.
