Native Americans and Alaska Natives have much very high rates of alcohol and drug abuse and addiction than other races, an a circumstance which should be aknowledged for these cultures to endure. While the causes may vary from individual to individual, most of the causes for the higher rates of drug abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the U.S.. The most apparent barriers to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for substance abuse are cultural ones and language.
