Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have much increased rates of alcohol and drug abuse and addiction than other ethnicities, an a circumstance which has to be addressed for these cultures to survive. While the reasons may differ from person to person, many of the reasons for the higher rates of drug abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native youth have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the nation. The most apparent hurdles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for addiction are cultural ones and language.
