Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have much increased rates of alcohol and drug abuse and addiction than other races, an a situation which should be resolved for these people to endure. Although the causes may differ from person to individual, the majority of of the factors for the higher rates of alcohol and drug abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents appear to have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the country. The most evident hurdles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for addiction are cultural challenges and language.
