Native Americans and Alaska Natives have significantly higher rates of abuse and addiction than other ethnicities, an an issue which must be addressed for these cultures to endure. Although the things which trigger substance abuse may differ from individual to person, many of the factors for the higher rates of drug abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives have to do with their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native youth have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the U.S.. The most apparent hurdles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug addiction are cultural differences and language. For this reason it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Eunice, New Mexico obtain substance abuse treatment in a drug rehabilitation center that is understanding of their culture, and most importantly in one that considers the need to provide drug rehabilitation in their language.
