Native Americans and Alaska Natives have much very high rates of drug abuse and addiction than other ethnicities, an a situation which has to be resolved for these people to survive. While the causes may vary from person to individual, the majority of of the factors for the high rates of drug abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native youth have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the country. The most apparent barriers to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for substance abuse are cultural differences and their language. This is why it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Eagle receive substance abuse treatment in an alcohol and drug treatment center that is understanding of their culture, and most importantly in a drug rehab program that considers the need to provide drug treatment in their language.
