Native Americans and Alaska Natives have significantly higher rates of drug abuse and drug addiction than other races, an an issue which should be addressed for these people to endure. Although the causes may differ from person to person, many of the factors for the high rates of abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives have to do with their culture. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the nation. The most evident obstacles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for addiction are cultural differences and their language. Due to this it is crucial that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Dubois receive rehab treatment in a drug and alcohol treatment program that is understanding of their culture, but most importantly in one that understand the need to provide drug and alcohol rehab in their native tongue.
