Criminal justice clients in Denmark often end up in drug and alcohol treatment facilities because they were found guilty of crimes relating to drugs, whether they were distributing drugs or were in the possession of or under the influence of drugs. Some judges put these criminal persons into the drug and alcohol treatment system because they consider that treating them will be more effective for the culture at large and for the individual, rather than putting them behind bars with no treatment at all.
