Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have significantly very high rates of substance abuse and alcohol and drug addiction than other races, an a situation which must be resolved for these cultures to survive. Although the causes may vary from individual to individual, many of the factors for the significantly higher rates of substance abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the country. The most obvious barriers to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug and alcohol addiction are cultural challenges and language. For this reason it is vital that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Datil, New Mexico obtain rehab treatment in an alcohol and drug rehab center that is culturally acceptable, and more importantly in a drug rehab program that understand the need to offer drug treatment in their language.
