Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have significantly increased rates of drug abuse and addiction than other races, an an issue which should be addressed for these people to survive. While the things which trigger substance abuse may differ from individual to individual, many of the reasons for the high rates of alcohol and drug abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents appear to have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the country. The most evident hurdles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug and alcohol addiction are cultural differences and language. Due to this it is crucial that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Colorado City obtain substance abuse treatment in an alcohol and drug treatment program that is culturally acceptable, and most importantly in one that takes into the account the need to supply alcohol and drug treatment in their language.
