Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have significantly increased rates of drug abuse and alcohol and drug addiction than other races, an a situation which should be addressed for these people to survive. Although the causes may differ from person to individual, the majority of of the reasons for the higher rates of abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents appear to have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the country. The most evident obstacles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for addiction are cultural challenges and language.
