Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have much very high rates of substance abuse and addiction than other races, an a situation which must be resolved for these cultures to survive. Although the reasons may differ from individual to person, the majority of of the factors for the higher rates of drug abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents appear to have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the country. The most apparent barriers to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for addiction are cultural challenges and their language. Due to this it is vital that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Canones receive treatment services in a drug treatment center that is understanding of their culture, but more importantly in a drug rehab that considers the need to provide alcohol and drug rehab in their native tongue.
