Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have much very high rates of abuse and addiction than other races, an a situation which has to be aknowledged for these cultures to endure. While the causes may differ from person to individual, most of the causes for the significantly higher rates of abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives have to do with their culture. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents appear to have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the country. The most apparent obstacles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug addiction are cultural differences and their language. Due to this it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Buena Vista obtain substance abuse treatment in a drug and alcohol treatment facility that is understanding of their culture, and most importantly in a drug rehab program that takes into the account the need to provide drug and alcohol rehab in their native tongue.
