Native Americans and Alaska Natives have much higher rates of drug abuse and alcohol and drug addiction than other ethnicities, an a circumstance which should be aknowledged for these cultures to endure. Although the reasons may differ from individual to person, most of the reasons for the higher rates of alcohol and drug abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents appear to have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the nation. The most evident barriers to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for substance abuse are cultural ones and language.
