Native Americans and Alaska Natives have significantly increased rates of abuse and addiction than other ethnicities, an a circumstance which must be aknowledged for these cultures to endure. While the reasons may vary from person to individual, the majority of of the reasons for the significantly higher rates of drug abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives have to do with their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents appear to have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the country. The most obvious barriers to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for substance abuse are cultural challenges and their language. Due to this it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Box Elder obtain treatment services in an alcohol and drug rehab center that is understanding of their culture, and more importantly in a drug rehab that considers the need to offer alcohol and drug rehab in their language.
