Native Americans and Alaska Natives have significantly higher rates of abuse and addiction than other ethnicities, an an issue which should be resolved for these cultures to survive. Although the causes may vary from individual to individual, most of the reasons for the higher rates of abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives have to do with their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents appear to have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the U.S.. The most evident hurdles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug addiction are cultural ones and their language.
