Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have much increased rates of abuse and addiction than other races, an a circumstance which has to be addressed for these cultures to survive. While the things which trigger substance abuse may vary from person to individual, many of the reasons for the high rates of abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents appear to have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the U.S.. The most apparent obstacles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for substance abuse are cultural differences and language. Due to this it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Black Hawk obtain treatment services in a drug and alcohol rehab program that is culturally acceptable, and most importantly in a drug rehab program that understand the need to provide drug rehab in their native tongue.
