Native Americans and Alaska Natives have considerably higher rates of alcohol and drug abuse and drug addiction than other races, an an issue which must be addressed for these people to survive. While the reasons may differ from individual to person, the majority of of the reasons for the significantly higher rates of alcohol and drug abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native youth have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the U.S.. The most apparent barriers to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug addiction are cultural differences and language. Due to this it is crucial that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Barron obtain treatment services in a drug treatment center that is culturally acceptable, but more importantly in one that understand the need to offer alcohol and drug rehabilitation in their native tongue.
