Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have much increased rates of drug abuse and addiction than other ethnicities, an an issue which must be aknowledged for these cultures to endure. Although the causes may differ from individual to individual, the majority of of the reasons for the high rates of alcohol and drug abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents have some of the highest rates of alcohol and drug abuse in the U.S.. The most apparent obstacles to helping Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug and alcohol addiction are cultural challenges and language. Due to this it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin receive rehab treatment in a drug rehab program that is culturally acceptable, but most importantly in a drug rehab program that takes into the account the need to supply drug and alcohol treatment in their native tongue.
