Native Americans and Alaska Natives have significantly increased rates of alcohol and drug abuse and alcohol and drug addiction than other ethnicities, an a situation which must be resolved for these people to survive. While the causes may differ from person to individual, the majority of of the factors for the significantly higher rates of alcohol and drug abuse amongst Native American and Alaska Natives related to their culture. First of all, Native American and Alaska Native adolescents appear to have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the nation. The most evident hurdles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for substance abuse are cultural challenges and their language. Due to this it is vital that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Arivaca obtain rehab treatment in an alcohol and drug rehab facility that is culturally acceptable, but most importantly in a drug rehab program that understand the need to provide alcohol and drug treatment in their native tongue.
