Partial Hospitalization, also known as "PHP" or Day Treatment, is a type of alcohol and drug rehab program which is meant to deal with substance abuse problems and psychological issues which might be co-occurring. In a PHP facility, the individual in rehabilitation takes part in a number of treatment services and techniques in the daytime and then leaves in the evening time. This is carried out several days per week, depending on the seriousness of the drug problem. Partial Hospitalization can be helpful for addicted persons in Appalachia who may not be able to afford long-term inpatient care, or for those who are unable to be away from their home for prolonged lengths of time. While in Day Treatment, people participate in traditional counseling and therapy for addiction issues while also addressing psychological issues which may deter them from remaining abstinent once rehab is done.
