Native Americans and Alaska Natives are known to have considerably higher rates of drug abuse and addiction than other ethnicities, an a situation which has to be resolved for these cultures to endure. While the causes may differ from person to individual, the majority of of the factors for the significantly higher rates of substance abuse among Native American and Alaska Natives are cultural ones. In fact, Native American and Alaska Native youth have some of the highest rates of drug and alcohol abuse in the U.S.. The most evident obstacles to treating Native Americans and Alaska Natives for drug addiction are cultural ones and language. This is why it is important that Native Americans and Alaska Natives in Ada obtain substance abuse treatment in a drug rehab facility that is understanding of their culture, but more importantly in one that considers the need to supply drug treatment in their language.
